How to Create a Windows 7 Backup Image

You can create a Windows 7 backup image file which copies all the data,installed software and settings all stored in one backup image, which can be restored in case of a Windows damage or failure. This feature is in-built in Windows 7 and known as Windows backup and restore.
When restoring a backup image, the image overwrites your entire system and restores it to the point when the backup image was created. In Windows 7 you can create a system image from the Backup menu. Follow the given steps to create a windows 7 backup image.

Step1: From start menu, go to the control panel and choose system and security.

Step2: Click on Backup and Restore option from the "System and Security" window. This opens up the Windows 7 "Backup and Restore" center.

Step3: Click on Create system image in the menu on the left side of the window.

Step4: Choose where you would like the backup to be saved. This must be on a separate drive or DVD. Windows 7 will not allow you to save a system image to your primary hard drive. Then Click "Next."

Step5: Click on Start backup option to save the system image. Windows 7 will give you the option to create a system repair disk along with the system image. Click "Close" after the backup image is completed.

How to Delete Protected Partitions in Windows 7

You can delete any partition on your computer hard drive, even if it is a protected partition; this facility is available in windows 7 disk management utility. Protected partitions are set up by computer manufacturers to create a restore section of the hard drive in case your computer crashes and you need to restore from the installed partition files. You can delete this partition to free up hard drive space but you will lose the facility to access the backup files.

Step1: From start menu, go to the control panel. From control panel list, click on system and security.

Step2: Click on Administrative Tools then double click on the computer management .A utility window open

Step3: Click on the disk management which is under the storage section on the left. Click on your hard drive partitions in the center details pane.

Step4: Right click the hidden partition and select "Delete Partition."

Step5: Click yes to that you want to remove the partition. The deleted partition is now labeled black, which means it is added to your available space.

How to Share Printers in Windows 7

Windows 7 computers can connect to each another over the same network through a homegroup, or workgroup. Windows 7 support home network and allow connected computers to share files and network printers. To share printers on a network, you must add both computers to the same homegroup. Follow the given steps to share and how to access printer from the network on windows 7.

Steps to share printer with the network:
  • First, check your printer is connected or not.If it is not connected then go to control panel->add a printer->choose what type of printer you want to install.It will search printer name then click next and after completing the all steps click on finish button.
  • From control panel ,open the Devices and Printers panel. There you will see a list with all external devices installed on your PC. Select the printer you want to share, right click on it and select Printer properties.
  • Now you will see a window with all the printer properties. Depending on the model of your printer, and its drivers, you can see different sets of options.

  • Go to the Sharing tab. There, you will have some options similar to the screen below. Select any checkbox that says 'Share this printer'.
  • Then, you can edit the printer share name. In most cases, it is by default completed by Windows with the name of your printer model. If you want to change it, then you can change it.Also enable this setting, check the box that says 'Render print jobs on client computers',when this is checked, all the print jobs are rendered on the computers which order the print job, not on the computer on which the printer is plugged.
Steps to access the printer from the network:
  • If all your network computers have Windows 7 installed and are part of your HomeGroup, then all you have to do is to make sure the printer is turned on when others need to print. If it is turned off, other computers won't be able to print.

Step1: Check the software CD, DVD, or other media for any physical damage such as scratches, dirt or cracks. If the disk is dirty or contains scratches, then clean it .If it is cracked or damaged, purchase of a new CD, DVD or other media is required.

Step2: Confirm your CD drive is working properly .You can check by inserting another CD and running the program. If it is working properly, try once more to install the desired software.

Step3: Insert software CD/DVD and open the folder until you see the file with the ".exe" extension.

Step4: Select run from start menu in the lower left of the screen.

Step5: Type cmd in the run box to open a command prompt window. A blank window will appear with c: in the left corner.

Step6: Click and drag the file with the ".exe" extension to the blank "CMD" window.

Step7: Drop or release the left mouse button once the ".exe" file is inside of the blank "CMD" window. The path of the ".exe" file will display after the "C:\" prompt.

Step8: Press the space bar once, type /NCRC, and press the enter key. The software will begin to install, bypassing the NSIS error.

How to Delete Volume Shadow in Windows 7

The Microsoft Windows operating system includes Shadow Copy technology that allows the system to manually or automatically generate snapshots of your computer's current data. The volume shadow copies contain old copies of files. System Restore uses the files in the volume shadow copies to restore your system to a previous working state, if necessary. Volume shadow copies take up a significant amount of hard disk space. You can delete the volume shadow copies from your system to reclaim disk space.

  •  Select search box from start menu and type "cleanmgr" (without quotes) into the search box and press enter.
  •  Click on the disk drive which you want to delete volume shadow copies from in the Drive Selection window and click “OK.”
  •  Click on the “Clean up System Files” button in the Disk Cleanup window. The Drive Selection window reappears.
  •  Reselect the disk drive which you want to clean up in the Drive Selection window and click “OK.”
  •  select “More Options” tab at the top of the Disk Cleanup window.
  •  Click on the “Clean Up” button in the System Restore and Shadow Copies section.
  •  Click on the “Delete” button to delete the volume shadow copies on the drive.
  •  Repeat the above process to delete volume shadow copies from other disk drives, if desired.
